Kyle gets COVID

Tuesday, June 21

I went to bed Tuesday night feeling pretty tired and worn down.  During the day I worked on putting some new lumber in the attic and that afternoon Esther was playing with Tuvy.  I went walking with Horace the dog to get some light training in for the weekend trip to Pete's that was planned.  I was feeling tired when I went to bed.  It felt like possibly some more than just a tiring day, but I didn't think much of it.  The thought slightly crossed my mind that I may have covid.

Then on Wednesday morning I woke up with a sore throat.  However, I went to breakfast at Hello Deli as usual and was ready to go to a handyman job for fixing some leaky sprinklers.  The job fell through due to rain so I went to Lowes instead.  I got home around 9:30 and felt OK.  Susie and I took Esther to swim lessons at noon and then she went to work.  I went walking at 1:00 when Mary was watching Esther.  I walked a long way and I felt pretty decent, although my knee did start hurting after the first mile.  That afternoon I started watching the Queen's Gambit while Esther was playing inside Tuvy's house.  I went down to check on her a few times, but walking down there was tiring.  Jesse was watching the Stanley Cup.  When Susie got home I told her I wasn't feeling well and that I should get tested for COVID.  She suggested I take one of Mary's at home test from the Commission.  I did that but I started feeling pretty bad as I did it.  It was tiring just to build up the energy to read the directions and take the test.  It showed positive.  I texted my Thursday handyman job at 10:00 and said I had to cancel.  Told Pete at 9:30 pm that I was feeling pretty weak and tired.

I woke up feeling tired.  I told myself to get up every 30 minutes to just do something.  But getting up was tiring.  Getting up to go pee was tiring and made my body ache.  I drove up to get my COVID test right around 8.  I arrived early.  The drive there was exhausting.  I would just want to rest at the stoplights.  I just wanted to get to the next street and the next turn so I could get back home and rest.  I got back home and went to the upstaris couch.  And there I stayed.  I got a little food here and there and went to the bathroom here and there.  But that was ALL I did all day.

That night was pretty rough.  I woke up again quite tired but not as bad as Thursday.  However, it had gone into my head.  I felt a lot of sinus pressure and coughed up some flem here and there, but it wasn't very productive.  I laid on the couch all morning and Esther and Mihika played together downstairs.  By Friday afternoon it started to feel like I was turning a corner for the better, though still pretty fatigued.

Saturday, June 25

Woke up with a lot of sinus pressure, ear ache, and general congestion.  It was easier to get out of bed but still felt some fatigue.  By the afternoon I was well enough to go down to Steve's and clean out his gutters.  I was tired doing the work but was feeling OK as long as I didn't exert too much effort or bend too far over.  I got home and took a shower and then sat down on the couch upstairs with Sus and Esther.  That was enough rest for me to get through the evening.  I made the sloppy joe's and then played a board game with Susie and Esther and Simon that night.

Sunday, June 26

The energy level was better, but still not to normal.  Sunday morning I was able get up without too much pain, except that I still have some lingering sinus pressure and maybe a little drainage from my nose.  I was able to fix Steve's toilet this morning without needing to rest.  Tonight I am going to sleep in the loft one last time, then should be back in my bed tomorrow night.

I received the most recent booster so it is surprising that this hit me so hard.  It felt like to knocked me down for a long time too, but as I reflect back it really wasn't all that long.  One full day in bed and then two days a light activity and recovery.  And now probably another day or two before I will want to do any physical exertion.  Not loss of taste or smell that I can detect so far.
