Thoughts on Dad's obituary (May 1, 2022):
Nanette Heath Masterson just posted on Facebook: "There is always, always, always something to be thankful for."
Sure, I will be thankful for dad's life, but don't deny me my sorrow when mom and dad pass. Don't cover up my sadness with your thankfulness. I want to share in the grief that Christ is experiencing since he is not gone from this world and from our lives while we're here on Earth. It is in the mourning where I will feel closest to Him, because it is in the mourning where I can open up my heart to be close to him and experience his presence and empathy for me. So, I'm thankful for the mourning, even though my heart breaks with pain because I miss my dad so much.
I want to just be with dad. The parts of dad that were wonderful and the parts of dad that were mean and unpleasant. I didn't love him because he was some great person, I love him because he was Dan, he was a brother and an uncle, a friend and a relative, he was a co-worker and a navy buddy, and he was a dad.
